Arun Khetarpal was Born in Pune, Maharashtra on 14 Oct 1950. His dad Lt Col (later Brigadier) M. L. Khetarpal was a Corps of Technicians official providing in the Native Indian Military and his family tracked a long record of army service. Participating The Lawrence University, Sanawar, he recognized himself both as an able student and player and was the college ideal. Khetarpal signed up with the Nationwide Defense Academia in July 1967.He belonged to Foxtrot Squadron where he was the Squadron Cadet Leader of the 38th Course. His NDA No was 7498/F/38. He consequently went on to be a part of the Native Indian Military Academia. In July 1971, Khetarpal was requested into the 17 Poona Equine. He was an officer of the Indian Army and a posthumous recipient of the Param Vir Chakra, India's highest military decoration for velour in face of the enemy. He died in the Battle of Basantar during the Bangladesh war where his actions earned him his honor.
